- IL - Downers Grove
More than 100 scholarship donors, University supporters, and partners joined Ƶ faculty, students, and staff at the annual Chippin’ In for Students Golf Classic to raise money for student scholarships. They partook in a friendly game of golf at the Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton, IL on June 27, 2024.
College of Dental Medicine - Illinois (CDMI) and Master of Public Health student Sydnie Taylor (CDMI ’26 & CGS-Downers Grove MPH ’25) spoke as a recipient of the MWU Spirit of Service Scholarship Award. She expressed her appreciation during the awards dinner following the tournament. “I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the donors whose generosity made this scholarship possible,” Sydnie said and added, “I love being involved and making an impact within communities, but I would not be able to pursue this passion if not for support from donors like those who provide for the MWU Institutional Scholarships. As a dual degree dental and public health student, working in addition to my studies would undoubtedly be an incredible challenge. I am so grateful to be able to direct that energy towards my passion of helping others.”
Sydnie encouraged the donors to keep supporting students through scholarships. “Your donations are more than just funds; they are investments in the future. They are the building blocks for dreams, scaffolding for success, and the foundation upon which young minds build their futures.” She continued, “Your contributions have empowered students like me to excel in their academic pursuits, innovate, and to give back to their communities. The ripple effect of your kindness extends far beyond our individual lives. It fosters a generation of empowered, educated, and compassionate leaders.”
Sydnie shared her story of growing up in Baltimore City, Maryland, where she was inspired to contribute to community service. “I’ve seen it in role models like my mother whose dedication I witnessed first-hand, whether it was volunteering at school fairs, participating in neighborhood boards and committees, or actively contributing to community organizations. Her spirit of service transferred to me.”
Ƶ President and Chief Executive Officer Kathleen Goeppinger, Ph.D., also thanked the participants and sponsors for their support in helping students along their path of healthcare education and ultimately becoming patient-centered healthcare professionals.
The Chippin’ In for Students event is one of the ways Ƶ seeks to support students on their educational journey into the healthcare field. Upon graduation, Ƶ students move onto a variety of careers in healthcare practice and education in many locations, and the donations make all these journeys possible.
